Thousands of New Marine Species Found In Pacific's 'Golden Triangle'
By Steve Connor, the Independent
When it seems everything under the sun is findable with Google, it's refreshing to hear that true discovery is still possible. In the waters around Panglao island, about 390 miles southeast of Manila, scientists on a French-led expedition discovered a plethora of marine species that the scientists believe have never been seen before. The discovery is part of a larger project to study areas rich in biodiversity and to better understand how to protect coral reefs. -- Evelyn Hampton

Artist Gets Inside the Human Body
By Jane Elliott, BBC News
For Angela Palmer, having a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan is about inspiration, not inspection. The artist uses the scans as the basis to create her glass-bound etchings of the human head and body -- a technique inspired by a 3-D model of penicillin's structure she saw in a museum. Her 'Inside Out' exhibition is on display until mid-May at the Hunterian Museum in London. If that's too far to travel, you can take a gander at six of her renditions here. -- Elizabeth Ryan

Advertising, Remixed
By Mental Floss
'Be Like Mike.' 'Just Do It.' 'Live the Magic.' Taken out of context, an advertising slogan can seem like a Surrealist pastiche of random words. Riffing on this aesthetic, the Random Ad Generator, created by designer Alexis Lloyd, remixes real advertising slogans and pairs them with an image from the photo-sharing site Flickr. The resulting ads are quirky, amusing, and often totally believable as real advertisements for mysterious products. A recent visit to the site engendered a blatant plug for capitalism in which an image of a limo in front of the London Hilton is underscored with the phrase, 'Essential to the wealth.' Similar sites include Sloganizer.net and Slogan Generator. -- Evelyn Hampton
