Nepalese Bloggers, Journalists Defy Media Clampdown by King
By Mark Glaser, Online Journalism Review
At a time when more Americans claim to favor government censorship in certain situations, citizens in Nepal are defiantly struggling to speak out. Young bloggers use pseudonyms to avoid detection. Journalists, forbidden by the country's new king to report anything of import on TV or radio, are using the same method to tell peers from the outside world that democracy in Nepal is under attack. -- Marca Bradt

German Penguins Can Stay Gay
By Staff, The Advocate
Gay rights activists recently took on officials at a German zoo who planned to separate three homosexual penguin couples. Now, instead of being forced to shack up with their exotic, Swedish female counterparts (as the zoo had planned), the males are living happily ever after. In fact, the couples have since gathered-up, and started sitting on, piles of stones, which seem to represent surrogate eggs. -- Marca Bradt

God Helmet
By Paul McFedries, www.wordspy.com
No, God Helmet is not a rock band; it's an actual device that's placed on people's heads, subjects their temporal and parietal lobes to low level electromagnetic radiation, and causes 80 percent of test subjects to report they feel God nearby. Michael Persinger, the head of the Neuroscience Research Group at Laurentian University in Ontario, developed the modified motorcycle helmet containing solenoids to study the physiological effect of religious and paranormal experience. As Anne Mcllroy of The Globe & Mail concluded: 'many [people] weep and say they feel God nearby' when subjected to the 'God helmet.' -- Barb Jacobs

How You'll Find America
By Cat, BAMboozled!
A refreshing alternative to the popular media representation of teens as brainless, sex-crazed, gun-toting creatures, BAMboozled! showcases the talent of young people in an online venue that endeavors to 'find truth in youth.' 'How You'll Find America' offers a glimpse of what's available on the site. Among the author's observations: 'America's almost over, you know, but you can still catch it in syndication out around the river, way out east.' -- Hannah Lobel
